Whichever way this mess is twisted the FIA sporting regulations forbid the use of a current car for any form of testing other than within strict limits which the Mercedes one fell out. No matter how strictly controlled the test might have been any running a team does is always beneficial. Waiting for two days for the track/place to clear, the strict security, trying to cancel the drivers from being recognised makes for all the ingredients of intending the test to be as secret as possible.
