Well downforce is most important in the bends, in a straight line it's just creating drag and slowing the car down.
I guess you won't learn to much doing straight line test.
Common practice is to say your doing a GP2 test and then get your race drivers in (with plain helmets on) and do a sneaky 1000k test with next years tyres on a circuit used for testing F1 cars pre-season
