If the wheels are being fitted to the wrong side of the car by the teams, when the tyre manufacturer stipulates a direction of rotation, then the fault lies with the teams. Photo analysis of the cars show that the practice is commonplace and, with only a small barcode and direction letter printed on the side wall, difficult to spot easily. If Pirelli turned the coloured band, between 'Pirelli' and 'P ZERO' into a series of chevrons (showing the direction of rotation) everyone and his dog would then be able to spot the teams that are fitting the wheels on the wrong side of the car and running them backwards. Simples!
