Let me educate you on how teams evaluate young drivers and have done so for decades:
STRs purpose is to evaluate drivers for the main squad.
The RBR can score at any round and at most expected to win.
The STR on average can't score on half the rounds of the year.
so Redbull then sees how many times they get a point scoring positon as a more important factor in race performance or how many times one finishes ahead of the other when they both finish.
Something Ricciardo is leading, combine that with a demolishing Qualify record and Vergne doesn't get a look in.
teams are not stupid, just because there car was good one round and was able to score points doesn't mean the driver found a load of talent that round, this is F1 the cars are not spec and some work well on certain tracks while performing bad on others, its been this way since the beginning.
