But then Hamilton's biggest strength is his single lap pace, and has always been. I think Alonso is still in a different league when it comes to race craft, but I do think Hamilton has improved.
But anyway this, in a way, is the curse of the good qualifier. Remember Trulli for example, who at first was celebrated as a qualifying expert - but somehow that turned into mocking him for the resulting "Trulli trains". Going backwards in a race never looks good, but it's hard to say if it's because you're underperforming in the race or because you're overperforming in quali.
