Googs, I think you're completely right, without the pressure of Ferrari and the pressure of Alonso Felipe may well loosen up and do really well for another team. Knowing that you're the second driver, testing parts, being asked to pull over can't be good for anyone's motivation.
I'm not blaming Ferrari for that policy or feeling sorry for Felipe for suffering at it's hands, lets be honest if Felipe had beaten Alonso from the outset he would have been number one and benefited from the lead driver policy, as he did in 2008 when he out performed Kimi.
