Ricciardo extends lead with double podium

Daniel Ricciardo has extended his advantage in the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series on the back of a double podium finish during the latest round of the year at Snetterton.

The Australian took second place in the opening race behind Renger van der Zande and repeated the feat in race two as he followed home Riki Christodoulou for a double score that strengthens his place at the lead of the standings.

“I think the key was getting a good start today as I didn't feel we had race winning pace,” Ricciardo said. “In race one I made a good start and followed Henry for the majority of the race, but was able to get past him when he made a small mistake.

“The second race was really good fun, I made a really good start and was fighting with Renger, I was right on the edge of the track and managed to get up to third before the first corner. Two laps later I had a good run on Walter [Grubmuller] down the outside of turn three to take second place, although he kept me under pressure for the rest of the race.

“I think two second places is a good result for us this weekend and I'm really happy to have extended my lead in the championship.”

Carlin team-mate Henry Arundel also picked up a podium finish during the course of the weekend with third place in race one, although Max Chilton was unable to build on a solid qualifying performance with a best finish of sixth.

Newcomer Phillip Major finished 14th in race one before an early accident forced him to pit in race two – eventually going back out to turn more laps behind the wheel of the car on his British F3 return.
