Carlin confirms second Red Bull man

Jaime Alguersuari will join Carlin Motorsport for the 2008 British F3 International Series, as predicted by Crash.net.

The 17 year-old, who competed in Formula Renault Eurocup this season, will join fellow Red Bull racer Brendon Hartley and British driver Oliver Turvey at the championship winning British team.

“I have chosen the British F3 Championship as a natural step in my professional career having succeeded in my two-year programme of Formula Renault 2.0,” said the Spaniard.

“British F3 will allow me to grow-up as a racing driver and as a person, learn some new circuits and compete in some other top venues in a prestigious championship.

“I'm proud to be part of a top team like Carlin Motorsport and I know they will give me the best possible car. I would like to pay them back with some good results although I know I'm just a newcomer!”

Team boss Trevor Carlin meanwhile reckons he has a lot of potential and has already promised that they will give him plenty of miles in pre-season testing so that he is ready for the off in March.

“Jaime is a very welcome addition to the team. Although still very young, Jaime has shown great potential and I'm confident that he will be an asset to Carlin in 2008,” he continued.

“The F3 machine is quite a different beast to the Formula Renault car and we will be putting together a comprehensive test programme for Jaime over the winter to prepare him for the season ahead.”

As for what it is like to have two Red Bull-backed drivers in his team, Carlin added it is a real honour: “I'm delighted to have both Jaime and Brendon with us for next season. I think it is a measure of our continued success in British F3 that Red Bull have entrusted us with not just one, but two of its drivers for the 2008 season,” he summed-up.
