Perez embroiled in three-way fight

Sergio Perez remains right in contention for the British F3 International Series title after another strong weekend of racing at Silverstone.

The T-Sport driver finished ahead of regular rival Jaime Alguersuari in both races but a double win for Oliver Turvey means he now leads the title battle heading into the next round this coming weekend on the streets of Bucharest.

Perez was on the pace during the practice sessions on Friday but set-up changes went the wrong way and he struggled in the first qualifying session, finishing in sixth place. Matters improved for session two and he had the pace but didn't quite hook up all three sectors and had to settle for fifth.

The Mexican rocketed off the line in race one, moving up to fourth, and held position until the chequered flag – despite having two bent wishbones on the front of car following contact with John Martin on the opening lap.

That put Perez back into the lead of the championship, and although he repeated his fourth place finish in race two, a second win of the day for Turvey saw him jump ahead of the reigning National Class champion into the points lead.

"We could have and, should have, been better but Silverstone International is such a small circuit for an F3 car; the slightest error in qualifying makes a huge difference to grid positions as the times are so close," team boss Russell Eacott said. "We're looking forward to the sunshine of Bucharest now where we hope to get Sergio back on top."
