Mortara turns attention to final

Edoardo Mortara is fully focused on completing victory in the Macau Grand Prix after a convincing performance during the qualification race.

Mortara, who finished as the runner-up in the Formula 3 Euroseries this year, began the weekend as the favourite for Macau glory and while he qualified behind Japanese F3 competitors Carlo Van Dam and Kaisuke Kunimoto, he soon revealed himself to be quicker in race trim.

Up to second at the start, Mortara would go on to reel Kunimoto in before slip-streaming him on the way into Lisboa, the Italian going on to impress with his overtaking manoeuvre on the outside.

Even so, Mortara has now turned his attention on the final where he will bid to become the first Volkswagen driver since Michael Schumacher, as well as the first Italian in 20 years, to win the legendary race.

“It was a good race. I was very cautious on the first few laps as the track was still very slippery. From lap three onwards, I started closing the gap to Keisuke Kunimoto who was leading the race. Of course, winning here in Macau is a nice experience. But let's not forget that today was only a qualification race. The real one is only tomorrow.”
