T-Sport has announced the signing of youngster Adriano Buzaid for the 2009 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series season.
The 20-year-old will move into F3 for the season ahead after a strong campaign in the Formula Renault UK Championship in 2008, where he took five wins en-route to third in the championship standings.
Buzaid also took part in the final rounds of the 2008 F3 campaign when he joined Carlin to run in one of its National Class cars at Donington Park but will now have his sights set on outright honours in one of T-Sport's new Volkswagen-powered Championship Class machines.
“As this is my first year in F3 it is very hard to predict what will happen,” he said. “But I know with the right equipment I can challenge for the championship. My plan is to work hard, win races and fight for the title. I have been hard at work in Brazil over the winter finalising sponsorship deals and I intend to make sure I make the most of this opportunity as I have had to push hard to get it.
“I am very happy with the testing I have done so far with T-Sport; I have already settled in well with the team and, if I can continue where Sergio Perez left off, it will be a good year.”
Having seen his team come close to the title last year with Sergio Perez, team boss Russell Eacott said he was hopeful that another strong campaign may lie ahead in 2009.
“Sergio did a fantastic job for us last year and only just missed out on the F3 title,” he said. “It's good to see he has gone on to win in GP2 as we always knew he could go all the way. Adriano is going to be a fantastic addition to the T-Sport team as we enter an exciting new era with a new engine partner and a renewed optimism. I think Adriano can challenge for wins and play a big part in producing another great year of racing for T-Sport.”
