Euro: Heinz & Union in VW deal

The new Kolles & Union F3 team has become the latest outfit to sign up to use Volkswagen engines during the 2009 campaign.

The team, headed by former Spyker F1 team boss Colin Kolles and business partner Werner Heinz, will run in the F3 Euroseries this season with a two-car team, with Dutchman Carlo van Dam onboard as the first confirmed driver.

The 22-year-old has past experience of the VW engine having contested the final Euroseries event of the 2007 campaign and will move into the championship full-time having enjoyed championship success in both Germany and Japan.

"I'm happy about the new member in our Formula 3 family and wish Kolles & Heinz Union a lot of success in their debut season,” Volkswagen motorsport director Kris Nissen said. "The two founders of the team are seasoned motorsport experts, and just their driver selection proves that they want to be among the front runners.

“With Carlo van Dam they are bringing an experienced and quick guy into our driver squad.”
