Victor Garcia is set to kick-start his plans for the new Cooper Tires British F3 International Series season at Snetterton this week with the first official FOTA test of the year.
The young Spaniard will form part of the Fortec line-up this season after impressing during testing at Rockingham back in November, with further tests in Portugal over the off-season being enough to secure him a race seat.
"Victor did the first test with us with the objective of improving his racing skills for his next season in the Spanish F3,” senior race engineer Mick Kouros said. “However, his early pace was very remarkable. He took part in a few more tests with us and kept on improving his lap times at all circuits we visited towards the end of 2008 and adapted perfectly to both car and tyres. We are pretty certain he will learn the British circuits very quickly and we will focus our energy on helping him fight for the championship."
Garcia's Snetterton test will give him more chance to get used to British circuits ahead of the new campaign and he admitted that it would make the official F3 tests vital for the year ahead.
"I am extremely happy with this opportunity,” he said. “I don't know the British circuits very well and therefore these first tests will be decisive. I have been following the development of the car very closely and I am really pleased with the experience shown by the team.
"I believe we have a very competitive car. Its strongest points are the Mercedes engine and the new aerodynamic package that surely will allow us to fight with Carlin and T-Sport, our main rivals."
