T-Sport has added a second Brazilian to its line-up for the 2009 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series season with the signing of Gabriel Dias.
The teenager will join countryman Adriano Buzaid and Wayne Boyd for the season ahead, although unlike the pair, he will run in the National Class as opposed to the International Class.
Dias' signing comes as he looks to re-launch his career following an accident last year at Spa during a Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup race, which left him nursing a broken back. Having initially planned to return to the series this year, Dias has instead brought forward his British F3 plans and will aim to quickly get up to speed as the season progresses.
“My original plan was to be a serious Formula Renault Eurocup 2.0 contender in 2009,” he said. “My recovery from my Spa accident is on schedule but, as it meant I was unable to take part in the Eurocup pre-season tests, I decided to move to British F3 one year earlier than the original plan.
“I'm sure it will take some time to adapt to the car and the tracks but I am very confident that through testing and the proven skills of T-Sport I will have everything in place to be competitive by mid-season.”
T-Sport team boss Russell Eacott was quick to welcome Dias into his team and said he was confident the youngster would help the team in its bid to reclaim the National Class crown.
“Gabriel has come to T-Sport as he wants to get back to where he was before the accident,” said T-Sport Team Principal, Russell Eacott. “We can provide him with the right environment for learning all the skills he needs to step up to the Championship Class. He came to us via Reunion Management with whom it's always a pleasure to do business. He's a talented kid and we're pleased to be able to help him to rebuild his career. We also want that National Class title back!”
