Team West-Tec has completed its driver line-up for the 2009 European F3 Open Series season, with Thor-Christian Ebbesvik returning alongside Jimmy Auby and the previously announced Callum Macleod.
Ebbesvik will enter his third year in Formula Three with the team in the series, which has come into existence this year to replace the Spanish series where West-Tec has run in recent seasons.
Having won the Copa de Espana in 2007 before securing two overall wins last season, the Norwegian will go into the season as one of the fancied runners and said the title was his aim after the chance to move to GP2 failed to materialise.
“Initially I wanted to move up to GP2 for this year but we didn't feel the deals were right,” he said. “I am really pleased to be back in F3 this year and am looking forward to add to the wins I scored last year. The championship is the goal!
Auby meanwhile joins the team for his second season of F3 competition and team co-principal John Miller said he felt the three drivers assembled would produce the goods during the year ahead.
“Jimmy is an exciting addition to the team and I am delighted to formally welcome him now,” he said. “We watched him last year and thought he could do a good job with us. He tested for us in late 2008 and did a really impressive job alongside Christian. I am sure he is going to be very competitive and add to our tally of wins and podiums.
“We have had enormous interest in our F3 programmes for this season, and we worked very hard to get a good blend of fast and mature drivers. It is possible we could still run a fourth car, and we have a couple of good drivers who want to do it with us, but it has to be the right deal as we are in a great position with three top drivers in Christian, Jimmy and Callum.”
