Ultimate quits British F3

30 March 2009

The Ultimate Group has revealed that it will not enter the 2009 British F3 International Series to instead focus on its commitments in the Renault World Series.

The team, which took its first wins in the series last season, had planned to swap its Mygale chassis for a Dallara for the new season but has now taken the decision not to contest the championship – with the current economic downturn having played a large part in the decision.

As a result, the team's entry into the World Series with Miguel Molina and Greg Mansell will be the main focus for the year ahead although team boss Barry Walsh admitted he wasn't ruling out a return in future.

“This was an extremely difficult decision but with the current state of the world economic climate, every company has to cut their cloth accordingly,” he said. “We are all extremely proud of what we achieved in just two seasons of British F3 and we certainly don't rule out a return to the category in the future.

“However our World Series team USR has been setting the pace in pre season testing and with Miguel Molina and Greg Mansell we have a good shot at both the team and driver's title; so this is where our focus for 2009 must lie.

“Looking to the future we are also planning to contest the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 from 2010 to run alongside our World Series team. Ultimate will continue to provide aspiring young drivers with a clear motorsport ladder from karting right up to the ultimate goal of Formula One.”
