British F3 to race in Portugal

Series promoters SRO have announced a change to the calendar for the 2009 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series season.

The series had been due to race on the streets of Bucharest for a third straight year in August alongside the FIA GT Championship, but a Madonna concert in the Romanian capital forced event organisers to move the race forward – which then created logistical problems for the British F3 teams.

As a result, the Bucharest race weekend will be replaced by a trip to the Algarve for a race in Portimao, which will take place on the weekend of 12/13 September and will be the penultimate round of the 2009 season.

It will see British F3 running on the same bill as the FIA GT3 European Championship.

"The original Bucharest date was ideal for us, but the Romanian event organisers had to bring it forward and it became logistically difficult for the teams,” SRO's Alastair Spence said. “We were happy to explore other opportunities and we are more than delighted with the outcome."
