Carlin Motorsport has confirmed the signing of Canadian racer Philip Major for the remainder of the 2009 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series season.
Major, who made his debut in the series last season with Fortec, will come into the team alongside Daniel Ricciardo, Max Chilton and Henry Arundel and fills the seat vacated by Oliver Oakes after he split with the multiple title winners.
The 20-year-old will make his Carlin debut at Snetterton, with five further outings to follow later in the season, and he said he was delighted with the chance to join the defending champions.
"I have been given a fantastic opportunity to race for Carlin Motorsport and I'm really looking forward to racing with the team," he said. "It was tough sitting out the start of the year, but now I'm even hungrier to get back to racing. With the championship nearly half over, we are clearly focused on winning races."
Carlin director Martin Stone was quick to welcome Major into the team and said the team would work hard to bring him up to speed.
"We're very much looking forward to Philip joining the team at Snetterton," he said. "He has already missed part of the season, but we'll be working hard to help him get up to speed quickly. There are still some great circuits to come on the British F3 calendar and we'll be aiming to get Philip near the top as soon as possible."
