Dutch racing driver Carlo van Dam has parted company with the new Kolles & Heinz Union team after it admitted failing to provide the reigning Japanese F3
champion with a package that was competitive enough to show his potential in the F3
Despite looking to graduate from the category, the Dutch driver - who added the 2008 Japanese title to the German F3
crown he won in 2007 - was contracted by the all-new Kolles & Heinz outfit ahead of this year's Euroseries campaign, but has been unable to better the 18th place he recorded on debut at Hockenheim in May, and missed last weekend's F3
Masters event at Zandvoort after the team withdrew its entry.
“So far, our team has unfortunately been unable to provide a driver who has won two championships with the support he deserves," team owner Werner Heinz admitted, "For Carlo, I believe it is better to race for a more experienced team, as we do not want to be in the way of his career.”
The team opted to miss Zandvoort in an attempt to improve its cars' performance prior to the official Euroseries test last week at Magny-Cours in France but, following the test and further discussions with the team, van Dam agreed that it was in his best interests to leave Kolles & Heinz Union and consider options that are being offered in both the Euroseries and other categories.
“This has, of course, been an important and thoroughly considered decision," he admitted, "I am happy that we have found a solution which is in the best interest of both parties.”
Britain's Nick Tandy appears in van Dam's regular #32 car, alongside Finn Johan Jokinen, on the entry for this weekend's Euroseries race at the Norisring.
