Ricciardo tops Brands Hatch test
8 July 2009
Daniel Ricciardo produced an impressive display during a day of testing for the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series at Brands Hatch as the championship leader emerged at the head of the times.
The Carlin driver – currently leading the standings by 23 points – posted a quickest time of 1min 18.124secs on his first visited to the famous Kent venue to end the day two-tenths of a second ahead of the man he leads in the title race, Hitech's Walter Grubmuller.
Ricciardo's time came during the morning part of the test, with weather conditions then deteriorating during the afternoon.
“Brands Hatch is just an awesome track!” Ricciardo said. “I love it; it's a bit like Oulton Park, which is the sort of circuit I like. We had a good day yesterday; I felt I got to grips with the circuit pretty well, although we weren't able to complete our full test programme due to the bad weather in the afternoon.
“The track is very challenging; it's long and sweeping with lots of fast corner. Stirlings is just one of the best corners ever! I can't wait to go back there to race.”
Behind the top two, Adriano Buzaid was third quickest for T-Sport ahead of double Snetterton poleman Renger van der Zande, who was one of the pace setters during the wet running in the afternoon. Henry Arundel and Riki Christodoulou rounded out the top six.
Gabriel Dias was the pacesetter amongst the National Class runners in ninth overall, ahead of points leader Daniel McKenzie who was eleventh.
With Nick Tandy having turned his focus to the F3 Euroseries, JTR welcomed Dutch driver Kelvin Snoeks onboard for the test, with the Formula Renault racer ending the day with the 18th quickest time.
