Emirati Azzam gets taste of F3.

Formula Renault driver Ramez Azzam stepped up a gear in his short career by successfully completing a first F3 test with the BVM Target team at Misano in Italy.

The one-day test followed an upbeat guest outing in the FRenault Eurocup at Silverstone last weekend and, with the support of ex-F1 driver Gianni Morbidelli, Azzam quickly got acquainted with the unfamiliar F3 machine as he learned the 4.18km circuit. The Emirati completed 60 laps behind the wheel of BVM's Dallara-Fiat, setting a best time of 1min 34.666secs as he explores options for the future.

“Many thanks to BVM Target and my management for handing me this opportunity," Azzam said, "Even though the car and the circuit were completely new to me and we endured some small teething problems in the morning session, I am very happy with the outcome of this first test.

"The BVM Target team is one of the leading teams in the Italian F3 Series and they gave me a great welcome and support throughout the day. As expected, I was initially flabbergasted by the speed and brake performances in my first run, but soon got to grips with it. After lunch, we improved steadily and, in the end, I started to feel really comfortable in the car, which the lap times also indicated.

"I'll be carefully celebrating my 18th birthday this weekend, as our next World Series by Renault [support] race is scheduled for next week and, after that, I will head straight to Varano for a second two-day F3 test with the team. Together with the time I intend to spend in the gym in the next few weeks, I won't get bored this summer!”
