Buzaid opens F3 account

Fresh from victory for Wayne Boyd at Donington Park, T-Sport was able to secure a second win of the British F3 International Series season at Spa after team-mate Adriano Buzaid took to the top step of the podium for the first time.

The weekend started well for the VW-powered team when Buzaid was the fastest man on track during the first free practice session, but that pace wasn't carried into qualifying – with Buzaid eleventh and Boyd down in 13th. Gabriel Dias however took National Class pole on his return to the circuit where he broke his back last year in a Formula Renault shunt.

Second qualifying was better however, with Buzaid taking pole position and Boyd securing a place on the second row of the grid.

Following the disappointment of qualifying, race one saw Boyd retire with fuel pump issues while a one minute penalty for Buzaid saw him drop from third to finish outside the points. Dias also suffered fuel pump issues to end up third in the National Class.

In race two however, Buzaid led from the front to secure victory with Dias ensuring double delight as he took the National Class. Boyd saw a tyre gamble fail to pay off when he went to wet tyres just before rain stopped falling.

“We were really disappointed with race one,” team principal Russell Eacott said. “Various faults cost us a lot of championship points for all the drivers. We redeemed ourselves in race two though and it was great to take such top results after what has been a very hard weekend at Spa.”
