Zampieri, Cipoli win at Varano.

Daniel Zampieri and BVM-Target team-mate Marco Zipoli claimed the two races at Varano de' Melegari as the Italian national F3 championship continued apace.

Zampieri dominated race one from the first to the last lap, the championship leader never challenged as he also set the fastest lap of the race. Behind him, the podium was completed by Daniel Campos-Hull (Prema Powerteam) and Salvatore Cicatelli (Team Ghinzani), but the title fight lost one of its protagonists in the early laps when Lucidi Motors' Sergio Campana spun at turn one as the result of contact from behind and a subsequent bump from the hapless Federico Glorioso (Gloria Pro Team).

"This has not been a weekend to remember for our team," eponymous team manager Gabriele Lucidi sighed, "Contact at turn one of the first race spoiled the whole weekend for Campana."

Fourth under the chequered flag was Stephane Richelmi (RC Motorsport), followed by Riccardo Cinti (Corbetta Competizioni) and Zipoli, who duly inherited pole position on race two's part-reversed grid.

Given the advantage of starting at the front, Zipoli made no mistake, going on to take his first F3 victory, who led home Richelmi and Cinti, while Zampieri saw his earlier good work undone as the result of accident damage following contact with an unspecified opponent.

"After his debut at Mugello, Richelmi has kept the same scoring pace as Zampieri, with 37 points in the last four races," RC Motorsport team manager Cristiano Giardina enthused, "That piece of information underlines his competitiveness - he is a fast driver, well prepared and has had a good feeling with the team since the beginning."

Having strengthened his lead at the top of the standings in race one, Zampieri's haul remained at 115 points after the second event, while Campana managed to add three points to his tally in race two, moving up to 94. That, however, wasn't enough to stop Zipoli from moving ahead of him in the standings, the race two winner moving up to 99 points, while Campos-Hull edged closer to third overall, now on 93 points.

"It has been a virtually perfect weekend," BVM-Target team manager Giuseppe Mazzotti admitted, "Zampieri set the pole position and won race one, also getting the fastest lap of the race, while Zipoli stepped on the top place of the podium of race two. We have two drivers in the first two places of the classification, and it's hard to desire something more than that."

The next round of the championship is scheduled for 6 September at Imola.
