The 2009 German F3 champion Laurens Vanthoor will make his debut in the Formula 3 Euroseries this season after signing up with front-running team Signature.
In addition to the Euroseries programme, Vanthoors will also competed in the Masters F3 at Zandvoort as well as the Macau F3 Grand Prix as the end of the year.
“Following my title in Germany the change to the F3 Euroseries was the obvious move,” Vanthoor said. “Next to GP2, the F3 Euroseries is the highest single-seater competition and stepping stone to F1. You only need to look at the championship records and then see where the present F1 top drivers learned their skills.
“Sutil, Vettel, Rosberg, Hulkenberg and Hamilton are a few of the big names who were active in the F3 Euroseries during the last few years.”
Vanthoor added that was hopeful of finishing inside the top five on his debut in the Euroseries.
“I'm aiming at a place in the top five, and with a bit of luck a top three,” he said. “Naturally the other VW drivers will act as a reference in this.
“The F3 Euroseries consists of eight rounds, but actually there are only two circuits I'm not acquainted with. Both Brands-Hatch and the Norisring are new for me, and I'll be starting out on those as a rookie. But I know all the other circuits and that's a good deal for me.”
