Euro: Mortara wins Valencia opener
Edoardo Mortara was victorious in the fifth round of the Formula 3 Euroseries season in Spain having taken his first pole in the series a day earlier.

The Italian took the lead at the start and was never headed as he took honours ahead of ART duo Valtteri Bottas and Alexander Sims.

Daniel Juncadella had started alongside Mortara on the front row but could only manage ninth after picking up a drive-through penalty for jumping the start.

“Qualifying was the key to success,” Mortara said. “This circuit is relatively slow and there are hardly opportunities to overtake. So, when you have a good grid position, a good start and when you make no mistakes, it is difficult for those behind you.

“In spite of this victory, I don't think about the championship. I only work from race to race. When you finish on the podium as often as possible, the rest comes all by itself.”

Roberto Mehri took fourth place ahead of Laurens Vanthoor and Antonio Felix da Costa, with debutant Kevin Magnussen scoring on his first Euroseries outing in seventh.

Nicolas Marroc took eighth place and will start race two from pole as a result.
