Webb takes Rockingham pole

Oli Webb leads the way in qualifying at Rockingham
Oli Webb secured pole position for the latest rounds of the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series at Rockingham as he looks to close the gap to the Jean-Eric Vergne in the points standings.

Webb outpaced Vergne by a tenth of a second to put his Fortec car on pole position for the third race of the weekend, while his second quickest lap was also good enough to take pole for race one.

“Yesterday's testing was hard for us with the strong winds, but the gusts have died down a bit and everything has come together,” Webb said. “Hopefully we can continue from here and do well in the races.”

Vergne will start from the second row of the grid for the opening race thanks to his second quickest time, with Carlos Huertas on the front-row alongside Webb for the Saturday afternoon encounter. Huertas was third quickest in qualifying ahead of Double R tem-mate Felipe Nasr.

Hitech rookie Pietro Fantin was an impressive fifth quickest in the session, although his second quickest time was only good enough for eleventh on the grid for race one, while the top six was completed by Adriano Burzaid.

Reigning National Class champion Daniel McKenzie ran into problems when he suffered a spin at Deene that left him down the order in 14th place. National Class pole this time around went to Menasheh Idafar, with rival James Cole securing top spot on the grid for race one thanks to his second quickest time.
