McKenzie wins pit-stop race

Daniel McKenzie secures maiden win
Daniel McKenzie took his first Cooper Tires British F3 International Series win with victory in the Rockingham sprint race – the first to feature a mandatory pit-stop.

McKenzie was he final drive to make his stop during the 20 minute race after electing to stay out for as long as possible and it proved to be the right call as he jumped ahead of early leader Daisuke Nakajima to take victory for Fortec.

McKenzie had earlier battled up from fourth on the grid to run second behind the Japanese driver having got ahead of both Adriano Burzaid and Felipe Nasr.

Nakajima had to settle for second place with Buzaid in third, while Hitech pair Gabriel Dias and Will Buller took fourth and fifth. James Calado took sixth place with points leader Jean-Eric Vergne down in eighth.

Nasr was the only driver to suffer a major problem in the pits when he stalled, although Carlin drivers Lucas Foresti and Jazeman Jaafar almost collided with Pietro Fantin at the pit exit.

Menasheh Idafar won the National Class again with James Cole having been delayed by the need for a new nose on his stop.
