Tom Blomqvist has won the opening round of the 2014 FIA European Formula 3 Championship at Silverstone with a comfortable lights-to-flag victory.

The British driver started from pole position and got away cleanly from Esetban Ocon and Antonio Fuoco, a top two that would remain static to the chequered flag as the Jagonya Ayam Carlin driver protected his advantage.

Indeed, save for an early pass by Jordan King on Fuoco for third, the race proved fairly uneventful with Blomqvist coming home a comfortable race winner, ahead of race two and race three pole position sitter Ocon, with King making it two British drivers on the podium in third.

Behind Fuoco in fourth, Lucas Auer rounded out the top five from Nichola Latifi, Felix Serralles, Ed Jones and Felix Rosenqvist.

Teenager Max Verstappen, meanwhile, saw his first car race end after just a single lap.
