Nicolas Pohler has announced he will be joining British team Double R Racing for the upcoming FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

The 19-year-old German has graduated from the EuroFormula Open series - who also use F3 car specifications - and is hoping to use that experience to have an immediate impact in Euro F3.

"I felt good with Double R right from my first test and I was impressed with the professionalism and dedication to provide me with the perfect car", said Pohler. "Anthony Hieatt [team principal of Double R] and his team have high goals for 2015 in the Formula 3 European Championship and so do I. We will be pushing hard to make an impact during the upcoming season."

The young driver finished 12th in the EuroFormula Open last year, scoring eight top 10 finishes in the process, and is looking to improve as he moves up into Euro F3.

Team principal Hieatt said he is pleased to have completed the team's first signing of 2015 and is relishing the prospect of working with Pohler after some impressive testing sessions in Germany.

"It's fantastic to be able to confirm Nicolas as our first driver for this year's FIA F3 championship, there's a lot of unfinished business there for Double R," Hieatt added. "We're determined to be closer to the sharp end this season and Nicolas certainly has some good experience from the EuroFormula Open."

Official Euro F3 pre-season testing begins on the 17-18 March in Valencia before the opening round of the season at Silverstone on the 11-12 April.
