Sam MacLeod has announced he is joining forces with the Motopark team for his debut season in the Formula 3 European Championship.

The 20-year-old Scottish driver competed against the German team in the British and German Formula 3 championships last season with Van Amersfoort Racing in Germany and Fortec Motorsports in the UK.

MacLeod racked up seven wins in 2014 across the two series - three in German F3 and four in British F3 - and his performances clearly impressed team principal Timo Rumpfkeil.

"We really had to do our best on occasions last year to keep him at bay," Rumpfkeil said. "After those performances, it was clear that he had to be on our shortlist of candidates for the FIA Formula 3 European Championship."

The Scot will now graduate into Euro F3 and has already heaped pressure on himself by demanding top place finishes in his rookie season.

"Admittedly, for me and my new team, this will be the first year in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, but we have got ourselves a good basis during the winter," MacLeod said. "Therefore, I am hoping for top results from the word go."

Rumpfkeil is confident MacLeod will be able to smoothly integrate his strong performances at a national level on to the European stage. 2015 will mark Motopark's debut season in the series.

"In the FIA Formula 3 European Championship the benchmark is higher than in national Formula 3 series, but the basic requirements aren't different," Rumpfkeil added. "We have the infrastructure and the engineers to compete among the front runners as quickly as possible. With Sam, we now also have a driver with whom we can play a significant role in the Formula 3 European Championship."

The Euro F3 season commences at Silverstone for round one on the 11-12 April.
