Pietro Fittipaldi, grandson of two-time Formula 1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi, has been confirmed for the upcoming Formula 3 European championship with Team Fortec Motorsport.

Both Pietro's grandfather and uncle Christian Fittipaldi, have raced in the series and the 18-year-old makes it the third generation of his family competing in Euro F3.

The Brazilian, who was born in Miami, claimed the Formula Renault title last year winning 10 of the 15 races in just his second season in single seater car racing. Fittipaldi has also raced in the British Formula 4 series after switching from kart racing in the US.

"It's great that I've made it to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship", Fittipaldi said. "I'm truly looking forward to the season kick-off at Silverstone."

British outfit Fortec Motosport were thoroughly impressed with the young driver after inviting him to run in off-season tests over the winter. The Brazilian has already targeted racing in Formula 1 and to emulate his famous grandfather.

The Euro F3 season commences at Silverstone on the 10-12 April and Fittipaldi will get his first taste of 2015 action at pre-season tests in Valencia on the 17-18 March.
