Alexander Albon has fought back against the dominant Charles Leclerc to take pole position for race two at Norisring in the sixth round of the FIA European Formula 3 championship.

The Signature driver found an extra slither of speed to cut his qualifying lap time down to 48.099s to create an impressive gap of 0.2s from Leclerc on the tight and short street circuit.

Leclerc, who claimed pole position for race one earlier in the day, will join Albon on the front row of the grid and ahead of his direct championship rivals who make up the top six spots on the grid.

Jagonya Ayam Carlin driver Antonio Giovinazzi grabbed third spot as Santino Ferrucci and George Russell set identical lap times in the two qualifying sessions to start fourth and fifth respectively.

Jake Dennis - who sits second in the drivers' championship - has got a much-improved starting place from his qualifying one session in sixth position, while Dorian Boccolacci and Mikkel Jensen make up row four. Experienced Euro F3 driver Felix Rosenqvist has been bumped down to ninth on the grid as Sergio Sette Camara rounds out the top ten.

Dennis grabbed the early initiative in the opening qualifying group - the 32-car field had to be broken up into two sessions due to the short 1.4-mile circuit at Norisring - and was involved in a three-way tussle for top spot with Gustavo Menezes and Russell.

Russell got the better of his fellow countryman Dennis to lead the provisional timesheet at the end of the first session, but once again it came down to a battle between Albon and Leclerc at the front as they improved on their qualifying one times.
