Felix Rosenqvist has converted his dominant free practice form into pole position for race one at the Red Bull Ring by edging out Jake Dennis by under a hundredth of a second.
Rosenqvist, who had set the pace in both free practice sessions in Spielberg, raced clear in the opening stages with a provisional pole time of 1m 24.7secs before Dennis jumped ahead to set the quickest lap of the weekend to steal P1 off the Swede.
As the pack shuffled behind the duo Rosenqvist wrestled back the initiative by ducking under Dennis' time by just 0.007s. The British driver was unable to respond, handing pole to the Prema Powerteam driver.
Lance Stroll – who was excluded from Monza race three results this week – sneaked into third ahead of championship leader Antonio Giovinazzi.
Rookie Charles Leclerc, who relinquished his championship lead in Holland last time out, will line up for race one in fifth ahead of Sergio Sette Camara and Silverstone race three winner George Russell.
Thai driver Alexander Albon continued his top ten placing in eighth ahead of Zandvoort winner Markus Pommer, while Gustavo Menezes rounded out the top ten spots.
