Harrison Newey, son of Red Bull Formula 1 chief technical officer Adrian, will step up to the FIA European Formula 3 championship with Van Amserfoort Racing.

The 17-year-old finished runner-up in the 2015 BRDC Formula 4 championship to Will Palmer in just his second full campaign of single-seater car racing and also competed in German F4 with Van Amersfoort Racing.

Newey enjoyed several tests with the Dutch squad over the winter and will now prepare for his rookie Euro F3 campaign alongside the already announced Pedro Piquet and Callum Ilott.

The Briton feels Van Amersfoort Racing is the ideal place to pick up experience for his rookie campaign.

"Van Amersfoort will be the ideal grounding for me to further my racing ambitions and to acquire all the attributes to gain as much experience as possible with a new car and mostly new tracks.”
