Alessio Lorandi has switched to Carlin for the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European Championship after leaving Van Amersfoort Racing.

The Italian 17-year-old is preparing for his second season in Euro F3 after finishing 20th in last year's drivers' championship, with the highlight of a sixth place in race one at the Pau Grand Prix, while he also finished seventh in the prestigious Macau Grand Prix on his maiden outing.

Lorandi says he's thrilled to be joining the British team and is targeting a move up the ranks in the Euro F3 championship.

“I am delighted to join forces with Carlin, a team that accomplished so much in Formula 3 and is also lining-up in other top-tier categories,” Lorandi said. “The chemistry with the staff has been excellent since the very first test and the work we did together proved extremely valuable.

"Trevor constantly showed how much he believes in my abilities and so it has been pretty easy to reach an agreement for the 2016 season. I could feel the excitement of the guys at Carlin and they are really motivated to go for a successful run this season.”

Trevor Carlin says the team were impressed by the teen in post-season testing and the clarity and amount of technical feedback he produced to Carlin's engineers.

“We're absolutely delighted that Alessio is joining the team,” Carlin said. “In the small amount of testing we have completed with him, he's shown himself to be a very talented and intelligent driver. Our engineers have been extremely impressed with his level of feedback and technical knowledge and already we have made some promising progress together.

"I have no doubt he will be a great asset to the team and we believe we have a great package to allow Alessio to reach his potential.”

Lorandi joins Ryan Tveter in Carlin's ranks for 2016 with a third driver expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
