The 17-year-old finished runner-up in the German F4 championship last year and after impressing Motopark during autumn and winter tests the German squad have handed Eriksson his rookie campaign in Euro F3.

Motopark team manager Timo Rumpfkeil is confident his young protge can target the top rookie honour in 2016 and hopes the transition from F4 to F3 will be seamless.

"We are completely convinced he's got what it takes - he has managed a seamless transition from the F4 car into the F3,” team boss Timo Rumpfkeil said. "He impressed us big-time in that he was both quick and consistent straight out of the box - I believe we can hit the ground running and fight for the Rookie of the Year award."

Eriksson sees Euro F3 as the toughest junior series around and is excited to get to grips with new machinery at new circuits.

"One of the toughest series out there at the moment, and it will be a major challenge," he said. "Having said that, I did learn a lot in winter testing, and I really enjoyed the car. I'm thrilled to be doing this with Motopark and I can't wait for the season to begin.

"There will be a lot of firsts for me this season. For example, I have only driven at one of the first five tracks we will visit. I'm particularly excited about going to Pau; that will be my first taste of a street circuit."

Eriksson joins the already announced Red Bull junior Sergio Sette Camera and Niko Kari at Motopark with a fourth and final driver expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
