Max Gunther has been handed pole position after George Russell saw his best time excluded after exceeding track limits and he will now start second
The British teenager had narrowly grabbed a maiden pole in Euro F3 but it was taken away from him retrospectively after race direction scrapped his best time as he was judged to have exceeded track limits.
In a tightly-contest qualifying session the top 13 cars on the grid were separated by just one second as the chequered flag dropped on the first session which handed the British 18-year-old his first pole in the series despite taking his maiden Euro F3 win in just his second-ever race.
Top rookie Ralf Aron will head row two in front of team-mate Lance Stroll with Joel Eriksson leading the way for Motopark in fifth, with Niko Kari completing row three.
Eary championship leader Nick Cassidy missed out on the top places and will start seventh on the grid for race one at the Budapest circuit ahead of Sergio Sette Camara, Callum Ilott and Alessio Lorandi who completes the top ten.
