Ben Barnicoat has notched up victory in his first European Formula 3 race at the iconic Pau street circuit ahead of Prema Powerteam duo Nick Cassidy and Max Gunther.

After the attention during the build-up focused around Nelson Piquet Jr's rejection by the FIA to compete in Euro F3 at Pau, Barnicoat has grabbed the headlines with an impressive maiden F3 performance at the street circuit to win by 2.4s from New Zealander Cassidy.

The Hitech GP driver has backed up his race three win in the wet at the Hungaroring to boost his title credentials as Cassidy narrowly trimmed Gunther's championship lead by edging out the German for second place.

George Russell, who starts race two from pole, claimed an impressive fourth ahead of fellow British driver Callum Ilott.

Dane Mikkel Jensen boosted his position after an underwhelming start to the year with sixth place in front of Carlin's Ryan Tveter as Serigo Sette Camara, Lance Stroll and Alessio Lorandi rounded out the points-paying positions.
