Lance Stroll has taken pole position in second qualifying in Spielberg by just 0.002s ahead of George Russell as the Williams F1 development driver looks to strengthen his place at the top of the FIA European Formula 3 standings.

The Euro F3 championship leader has held on to pole by the smallest of fractions at the Red Bull Ring while the top 18 cars were only split by one second, emphasis the competitiveness witnessed in the free practice and first qualifying session.

Stroll will have Callum Ilott directly behind him with Niko Kari joining him on row two. David Beckmann produced his best qualifying result of the year in fifth ahead of Red Bull-backed Sergio Sette Camara and Max Gunther.

Ralf Aron, Mikkel Jensen and race one pole-sitter Joel Eriksson completed the top ten.
