Ferdinand Habsburg has become the first name to join Carlin for the 2017 European Formula 3 championship having impressed in Euroformula Open by finishing runner-up this year.

Despite only being 19-years-old Habsburg has a wealth of experience in single-seater racing having competed in the Formula Renault 1.6 NEC, multiple Formula Renault 2.0 series, Toyota Racing Series, Spanish F3 and Euroformula Open.

In 2016, Habsburg caught the eye having finished fourth overall in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand before switching to a dual Spanish F3 and Euroformula Open campaign where he finished third and second in the respective categories.

Habsburg enjoyed a first step into F3 racing at the Macau Grand Prix and after impressing in a recent FIA Formula 3 test at Silverstone Carlin has secured his signature for 2017.

"I'm extremely excited about the upcoming season especially after a really good year in F3 Open so coming off the back of that gives me a lot of confidence for a competitive season with Carlin," Habsburg said. "FIA F3 is the next step for us and I think that a good winter test schedule as well as racing in New Zealand will mean that we're looking strong from the start.

"Carlin has a great history in Formula Three so we'll be going into the season working well together with a great package; everything is looking very positive for 2017."
