While he was expected to compete in Macau for his Euroseries entrant ASM, Sebastien Vettel has been confirmed as the fourth member of the Carlin team for the end of season F3 Grand Prix event on the tricky street circuit.
The BMW Sauber test driver will lead a four car strong team of Carlin regulars Oliver Jarvis and Maro Engel and fellow Euroseries racer Sebastien Buemi – with all four drivers expected to be right in contention for victory at the head of the field.
Jarvis and Engel – both F3 debutants this season – snared 19 podiums between them during the British F3 season, while Buemi took second place in the Formula BMW World Final last season before making his move into the Euroseries with ASL.
With four victories this season in the Euroseries, Vettel will start the weekend as one of the favourites for success and will look to build on his third place finish last year before resuming his role with the BMW F1 team – a role that has seen him top the times on Friday testing during Grand Prix weekends this season.
“The Macau Grand Prix has long been a favourite event of Carlin Motorsport and this year is no different,” team boss Trevor Carlin said. “We go to Macau with a balanced driver line up, Oliver and Maro from our British F3 team and two drivers from the Red Bull programme, which has served us so well this year.
“I'm delighted to have Sebastian Vettel back in the team after his brilliant performance with us in World Series [when he took a double victory at Misano]. I'm sure the other drivers will benefit from his experience at this very tough track. We were very unlucky not to win the race last year with Robert Kubica, losing the lead in the final laps. Hopefully, we will go one better this year and take the victory.”
