Mixed emotions for Mustonen at Thruxton

Atte Mustonen produced one of the strongest drives of the weekend at Thruxton but was ultimately left frustrated by the latest rounds of the British F3 International Series.

The Finn had qualified in twelfth place for the opening race in the Raikkonen Robertson Racing Dallara but was able to work his way through the field before becoming embroiled in a heated battle for position with title hopeful Sergio Perez.

Mustonen eventually found a way past the Mexican but was unable to make further progress, leaving him to settle for sixth place.

"I started twelfth and got a reasonable start, and the car felt okay in the race,” he said. “It was good in the high-speed sections and my straight-line speed was good. It was important to take points and everyone is now very tight in the points table."

However the second race would end in disappointment for Mustonen, when contact with Sebastien Hohenthal at the Chicane forced him into retirement.

"I didn't get a good start and lost places, then braking into the last corner he just tucked in and hit me,” he said. “That meant I scored no points which was not good."
