Spaniard Jaime Alguesuari will hope to open up an advantage in the battle for the British F3 International Series heads to Spa this weekend for the latest rounds of the season.
The Carlin driver currently lies level on points with Sergio Perez heading to the Belgian race weekend and will hope to repeat his Formula Renault success at the venue in his first outing there in F3 machinery.
“I won at Spa last year in Formula Renault Italy and I'm aiming to do the same in the F3 car this weekend,” he said. “The championship is still very tight and we need to be taking any opportunity to build up a gap from Sergio [Perez].
“Spa is one of my favourite tracks, it's very flowing, very up and downhill which makes it very exciting to drive. There are also lots of places to overtake, so its fun to race on as well. If we get the set-up together in time for qualifying, I think we could be looking at another strong weekend.”
Team-mates Oliver Turvey and Brendon Hartley have also enjoyed successful weekends at the Spa circuit in the past while Sam Abay will be looking to join the trio in making a trip to the podium.
In the National Class meanwhile, Kristijan Einar will fly the flag alone with Andy Meyrick still sidenlined by injury.
“Spa is one of the few circuits on the British F3 calendar that Jaime and Brendon have experience of, so unlike many of the previous rounds, they won't have the added task of learning the track throughout the weekend,” team boss Trevor Carlin said. “Oliver continued his consistent run of podiums as Brands Hatch, but he will be aiming for the win this weekend. Sam has been improving race by race and although this will be his first visit to Spa his confidence is growing and I expect him to be among the front runners.
“Kristjan will be our only National Class entry this week, as unfortunately Andy will miss this round as he has still not recovered sufficiently from his illness to be able to race.”
