Mixed weekend for Ultimate.

Ultimate Motorsport endured a mixed weekend as the British F3 International Series made the trip to Spa for the latest rounds of the year.

Michael Devaney was able to qualify the Mygale-Mercedes in the top eight again for race one, but a gamble on set-up for the second qualifying session didn't come off and he missed the top ten.

However, the Snetterton race winner gave the team encouragement in the opening race as he was able to maintain his eighth place throughout the twelve lap encounter and secure vital championship points.

Although Ricardo Teixeira was forced into retirement, Ali Jackson bounced back from an engine problem that hindered his qualifying performance to charge up from 18th on the grid and finish eleventh in the race – just outside a points finish.

"It's taken me a bit of time to adjust to the Mygale because it's very different to the cars I've driven before, but I'm learning all the time and things are starting to get better and better,” he said. “I really enjoyed the race: obviously there was a lot of work to do after the problem in qualifying, but we had a very good run.

“I think I'm now driving better than I ever have done before. It was a little bit frustrating to be able to lap at the same speed as the front group but not be able to close on them, but from 18th on the grid it was a good finish."

Devaney looked set to add to his points in race two following a fine start that saw him jump up to sixth place, but he was then forced to retire when his car developed a gearbox problem.

That left Jackson and Teixeira to fly the flag for the Mygale outfit with Jackson 19th and Angolan racer Teixeira one place higher having lost time with a drive-through penalty for cutting the Bus Stop chicane.

Michael Devaney, who had salvaged an excellent points finish in the opening race yesterday, made a stunning start and capitalised on some first corner dramas to climb from 13th up to sixth place. But a gearbox problem ended his day before he could even complete the first lap.
