Sam Bird produced an impressive display in the F3 Masters at Zolder as he battled his way through the field to take a top ten finish in the annual non-championship event.
Bird had struggled in the pre-qualifying session with a defective set of Kumho tyres on his Manor Motorsport Dallara and having only posted the eleventh quickest time in his group, the Briton failed to make it through the top 20 shootout to decide pole position for the event.
In his qualifying session, Bird posted a time that would have put him easily inside the top ten, but instead he was forced to start from 22nd place on the grid, with plenty of work to do on race day.
With a number of incidents on the opening lap, Bird battled his way up to 13th place on lap one and then continued to make progress to eventually take the flag in an impressive seventh place.
"The tyre problem in pre-qualifying was most unfortunate," he said, "and I believe that without that, I would have started from the front two rows and could have challenged for a podium, but that's racing.
"I'm confident we can carry over the form we have shown here to the rest of the Euroseries championship and I'm really looking forward to the next race at Brands Hatch, where I have had quite a bit of success in the past."
