National Class racer Andy Meyrick has said that he hopes to make a return to the British
F3 International Series grid before the end of the season following his recent illness.
Meyrick, who had been leading the National Class championship standings during the first half of the year, fell ill in early July on the eve of the
Brands Hatch race weekend and was forced to miss both that meeting and that following one at Spa.
Despite spending three weeks in hospital, two of which were on an intensive care unit undergoing tests and treatment, the 22-year-old has now been allowed to go home and although he will miss the events at
Silverstone and Bucharest, the Carlin ace now aims to be back for the season finale at
Donington Park.
"I'd like to thank everyone for all the support and kind wishes I've received since becoming ill and of course the medical team who have looked after me for the last few weeks," he said. "If it wasn't for their professionalism the outcome could have been much worse.
"It has been incredibly frustrating to miss the second half of the season, but having beaten an illness of this nature my goal is to return as soon as possible and resume where I left off. Thankfully, there will be no long lasting effects and I'm fully committed to my racing and getting back to full race fitness as soon as possible."
