Oliver Turvey's late bid for the British Formula 3 title took another step forward as he secured his third pole position in a row at Silverstone.

With six races remaining, Turvey is just 14 points behind the leaders Jaime Alguersuari and Sergio Perez and is destined to close that down further in the 17th race of the season after claiming a comfortable pole position.

That placed him just over a tenth ahead of Carlin team-mate Brendon Hartley's, whose best lap was enough to stave off the attentions of Marcus Ericsson, the Swede keeping the Fortec Motorsport spirits high after team-mate Sebastien Hohenthal decided to leave the team prior to this weekend.

Double R Racing's John Martin put in a fine effort for his best qualifying position of the season in fourth, while championship leaders Alguersuari and Perez will share the third row in fifth and sixth place.

Atte Mustonen will start seventh, ahead of Max Chilton and Nick Tandy, the JTR driver leading an otherwise lacklustre Mygale effort in the session. Sam Abay rounded out the top ten.

Elsewhere, there is a new face in the shape of South American Formula 3 Champion Clemente Faria Jr for Double R Racing, the Brazilian qualifying 18th, while Stefan Wilson claimed pole position for the National Class as the mini-championship continues to reel from the loss of erstwhile leader Andy Meyrick.
