Turvey takes points lead at Silverstone.

Oliver Turvey has moved into the lead of the British F3 International Series championship following a double victory in the latest rounds of the season at Silverstone.

Turvey's third and fourth wins of the season mean he now holds a nine point lead in the standings heading to the next round of the season in Bucharest next weekend, with the title fight having swung once again during the course of a race weekend.

The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver qualified on pole position for the opening race, but lost out at the start to Carlin team-mate Brendon Hartley who jumped into the lead. From that point onwards, Turvey set about piling the pressure on the Kiwi and on lap 21 he was able to find a way past when Hartley ran wide at Copse – then taking the chequered flag for his third win of the campaign.

“Brendon got a great start and did a really good job throughout the race as I could see he was struggling quite a lot,” he said. “I got really close a few times, but there wasn't really the opportunity to make the move. Towards the end of the race Brendon made a small mistake at Copse and I was able to get side-by-side and then just squeezed through as we went into turn two. It's great to get this win.”

Turvey started behind Hartley on the grid for race two, but in a repeat of the first race it was the pole-man who was slower getting away from the grid which allowed Turvey to jump into the lead. Despite coming under pressure from Marcus Ericsson throughout, the young Briton held on to take his double win and jump into the lead of the championship standings.

“It's been an almost perfect weekend, we have continued the form we had at Spa; we came here with a good car and found a good set up straight away,” he said. “Carlin and my mechanics have done a great job so I have to thank them. To win both races here makes up for the disappointment of the second race at Spa.

“Brendon is usually very quick at the start so I'm not sure what happened to him, all I know is that I was into the first corner first and was able to control the race from there. Hopefully we can hold on to the championship lead for the last few races and win the championship in my first year.”
