Fresh from his Formula 3 Masters victory at Zolder, Jules Bianchi has secured his maiden Euroseries pole position in qualifying at Brands Hatch.
With the session split into two groups to counter the problem of having too many cars on the short Indy-configuration of the Kent circuit at one time, Bianchi recorded the best lap in the quicker Group A to edge out Nick Hulkenberg, who was fastest in Group B.
The new championship leader after having his Zandvoort disqualification overturned earlier in the day, Hulkenberg heads into the weekend with a nine point advantage over Edoardo Mortara. The Italian, who scored a surprise maiden win at Brands Hatch last season, will start a modest eighth.
British team Manor Motorsport produced a much-needed good performance but while former British Formula 3 driver Sam Bird was expected to lead their charge, it was Japanese racer Koudai Tsukakoshi who will start third, with Bird fourth.
James Jakes was another to receive a significant boost to his confidence to qualify fifth, while outside title contender Christian Vietoris keeps himself in the mix with sixth on the grid. Yann Clairay, Mortara, Niall Breen and Renger van der Zande round out the top ten.
Elsewhere, other British drivers, Jon Lancaster and Martin Plowman will start 12th and 25th respectively.
