Jules Bianchi has taken pole position for his home round of the F3 Euroseries with a dominant display in qualifying at Le Mans.
The ART Grand Prix driver left it late in the session to demote Stefano Coletti from the head of the times just when he looked set to secure pole position for the Prema Powerteam squad.
Bianchi's lap of 1min 31.328secs was almost half a second quicker than Coletti was able to manage as even after improving his lap slightly, he was still 0.481secs shy of pole.
With the two rookie drivers on the front row, current points leader Nico Hulkenberg had to settle for third place but his hopes of securing the title this weekend received a boost when closest rival Edoardo Mortara could only struggle to the 19th quickest time. Mortara goes into the weekend trailing Hulkenberg in the standings by 24 points after failing to add to his championship tally last time out in Barcelona.
Hulkenberg will be joined on the second row of the grid by Sam Bird who, boosted by a solid GP2 test, was able to lead the Manor contingent in fourth place, just ahead of team-mate Koudai Tsukakoshi and the Mucke Motorsport trio of Christian Vietoris, Erik Janis and Mika Maki.
Dani Clos and Jean-Karl Vernay rounded out the top ten having benefitted from a penalty handed to Brendon Hartley. Hartley had been fifth quickest but was one of a number of drivers penalised with the loss of his time for setting his fastest lap under yellow flags.
